Eligibility Criteria

For most SSC CGL posts, candidates must hold a Bachelor's degree from a recognized university or equivalent. Certain posts, including statistical positions, have additional subject or marks requirements. Candidates should check the post-specific conditions in the official notification.

Age Limit

The age limit varies by post. The 2026 notification includes different post-wise age limits, with upper ages such as 27, 30 and 32 years depending on the post. Applicable category-wise age relaxation is provided according to government rules.

Salary and Pay Level

SSC CGL posts are placed in different Pay Levels. Depending on the post, pay levels include Level 4, Level 5, Level 6, Level 7 and Level 8, along with applicable central government allowances.

Selection Process

SSC CGL selection is conducted through Computer Based Examinations in Tier-I and Tier-II, followed by post-specific qualifying tests or document verification wherever applicable. Final post allocation is based on merit and candidate preferences as prescribed by SSC.

SSC CGL Exam Pattern

Tier-I covers General Intelligence and Reasoning, General Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude and English Comprehension. Tier-II includes Mathematical Abilities, Reasoning and General Intelligence, English Language and Comprehension, General Awareness, Computer Knowledge Test and Data Entry Speed Test as applicable. Separate papers are prescribed for certain specialized posts.

Application Fee

The examination fee is ₹100. Women candidates and candidates belonging to SC, ST, PwBD and eligible Ex-Servicemen categories are exempt from payment of the fee, subject to the notification conditions.
